Albertans selected in 2024 CEBL Draft

A pair of Albertans were selected in the 2024 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft on April 11.

Okotoks product Elias Ralph was picked in the first round, third overall, by the Saskatchewan Rattlers, while the Edmonton Stingers drafted Calgary native Nate Petrone 25th overall in Round 3.

Ralph is coming off his third season of at the University of Victoria, where the six-foot-seven guard was named a 2023-24 Canada West Second Team All-Star after averaging 16.0 points and 8.3 rebounds.

In his first season at the University of Calgary, Petrone ranked second in Canada West with an average of 20.6 points per game. The six-foot-two guard was named a 2023-24 U Sports First Team All-Canadian.

As youth, Ralph and Petrone were both involved with Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) provincial team programming. Petrone competed for Team Alberta at the 2018 17U Canada Basketball National Championships.

Graduating or returning Canadian student-athletes competing in U Sports and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) were eligible to be selected in the 2024 CEBL Draft, which consisted of three rounds. The 2024 CEBL season tips off May 21 when the Calgary Surge host the Stingers at Scotiabank Saddledome.
