Alberta's Yvonne Ejim and Gonzaga go dancing into the Sweet 16

Calgary’s Yvonne Ejim and the Gonzaga Bulldogs have punched their tickets to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women’s Division 2024 NCAA Women’s Division 1 Basketball Tournament.

In second round action on Monday (March 25), Ejim had 17 points and 13 rebounds to help Gonzaga defeat the Utah Utes 77-66 at McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Wash.

 

With the victory, Gonzaga advances to play the Texas Longhorns in the Sweet 16, Friday (March 29) at Moda Center in Portland, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Canadian viewers can catch the action on TSN2. The game will be broadcast on ESPN in the United States.

Gonzaga opened the tournament by beating the UC Irvine Anteaters 75-56 last Friday (March 24) at McCarthey Athletic Center. Ejim had 25 points and 14 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ first round win.

The winner of Friday’s game between Gonzaga and Texas advances to the Elite Eight, where they will face either the North Carolina State Wolfpack or Stanford Cardinal on Sunday (March 31) at Moda Center.

This is the first trip to the Sweet 16 for Gonzaga’s women’s basketball team since 2015.
