Calgary's Ejim named Becky Hammon Award semi-finalist

ABA (Alberta Basketball Association) alumnae Yvonne Ejim of the Gonzaga Bulldogs is one of 10 players in NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball named to the 2023 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Midseason Watch List, announced on Wednesday (Feb. 8).

The junior forward from Calgary leads Gonzaga in 2022-23 with averages of 16.9 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, and 1.0 blocks per game. She has seven games scoring at least 20 points, including a career high 32 against Queens on Dec. 6, and recorded four double-doubles. Ejim has twice been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week this season.

Ejim was part of Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2016 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17), and represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Five finalists for the 2023 Becky Hammon Award will be announced in early March. The winner will be announced in late March.
