We Are Alberta programming updates for May 26

May. 26, 2020

New Additions This Week

There is a correlation between the sacrifices being asked for by our governmental health leaders and the coaches of the teams we compete on in meeting the challenge of flattening the COVID-19 curve. The experts in the medical field are providing leadership in order to keep everyone healthy; coaches are experts in trying to make us better individual players as well as great teammates.

It is important that the basketball community remains respectful and committed to the greater good in making decisions in how we return to the game. There have been numerous reports of large groups of players playing 5 on 5 on very crowded outdoor courts. It is important that everyone in the basketball community remain diligent in not trying to come back too soon. We have to remain committed to making sure we don't come back too soon and endanger others. This will only slow a full return to competition so please follow the guidelines that are being provided.

ABA will be releasing a return to play update as soon as more details become available.

ABA had a phenomenal session last week with Coach Gore from Valparaiso and there are great offerings this week, as well!

Thanks for all of your efforts in this difficult time. We are beating COVID-19 together and will be on the court as soon as possible.

We have a double dip on Hoops Hangouts this week. Coach Shawn Huse from Montana State Northern will present an outstanding X's and O's session on Tuesday, May 26th and Coach Reagan Wood from Concordia University of Edmonton on Thursday, May 28th sharing how to effectively use stats and film to adjust your strategy. Both sessions go at 7:00pm. You can sign up for these sessions on GamePlan by clicking below.

As the summer weather comes in and we see the re-opening of outdoor courts, here are some great drills demonstrated by Ethan Sir that you can take outside and practice

This week on Hoops and Health we have a powerful message from Jenn Le, one of the best teachers in Alberta, on how we can harness the power of self belief.  Jenn volunteers in many areas throughout the Calgary basketball community including working with the University of Calgary Dinos Women's team.
