PRESS RELEASE: Elite field announced for FIBA 3X3 Women's Series in Edmonton

(Edmonton, AB) - An elite lineup of teams has been announced for the first FIBA 3X3 Women’s Series event in Western Canada, Sept. 21 and 22 at West Edmonton Mall’s Ice Palace.

Four of the top six teams in the current FIBA 3X3 Women’s Series standings will compete in Edmonton, where No. 2 Team Canada hosts a six-team field that includes Italy (No. 3), Poland (No. 5), and Spain (No. 6), along with the ninth-ranked Czech Republic and Team USA, which currently is 11th.

With Edmonton natives Katherine and Michelle Plouffe leading the way, Canada is the hottest team on the FIBA 3X3 Women’s Series tour, having won its last three events to surge up the standings.

The FIBA 3X3 Women’s Series Edmonton Is the final event of the tour’s inaugural 2019 season. Teams are focused towards qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games, where 3X3 basketball will make its Olympic debut next year.

The festivities tip off Saturday (Sept. 21) with the opening ceremonies at 1:30 p.m., followed by pool play from 2 p.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. Playoff games run Sunday (Sept. 22) beginning at 1 p.m., with the championship final game scheduled for 3:35 p.m. The full schedule is available at https://womensseries.fiba3x3.com/2019/edmonton/games.
