ABA alum Yvonn Ejim named WCC Freshman of the Week

On Jan. 18, Alberta Basketball Association alum Yvonne Ejim of the Gonzaga Bulldogs women's basketball team was named the University Credit Union #WCCHoops Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 11-17.

A forward from Calgary, Yvonne was instrumental in Gonzaga's sweep of Santa Clara and San Francisco as she averaged a season-best 8.5 points over the two-game span.

Against Santa Clara, Yvonne came off the bench to score seven points in 16 minutes of play, finishing 2-of-3 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the charity stripe. She added two rebounds in the win. Yvonne shined in a 76-52 victory at San Francisco, finishing with a season-high 10 points off a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor. Over the two games, Yvonne missed just a single shot, finishing 87.5 percent from the floor. She also contributed 1.5 assists per game for the Zags.

Yvonne was part of Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2016 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17), and represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. She was a three-time tournament All-Star at the Canada Basketball national championships (U17 Second Team in 2019 and 2018, U15 Second Team in 2016).
