With help from a trio of Albertans, Canada captured silver at the FIBA U16 AmeriCup 2025 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
Guard Liam Mitakaro (Edmonton), centre Ranko Rascanin (Airdrie), and assistant coach Dan Vanhooren (Calgary) were part of the Canadian team that finished second at the tournament, which ran from June 2 to 8.

Canada placed atop the Group B standings with a record of 3-0, and advanced to the gold medal game after defeating Mexico in the quarter-finals and Venezuela in the semi-finals. The United States beat Canada in the final at Gimnasio Universitario UAC on Sunday (June 8) night.
By virtue of finishing in the top four at the U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2024, Canada qualifies for next year’s FIBA U17 Men's Basketball World Cup 2026.
