Wayne Dunnington is a veteran coach, official, and program leader with more than 20 years of experience growing the game of basketball across northern Alberta. As the Northern Sport Coordinator for Alberta North Basketball and Head Coach of the U19 Men’s Team for the 2026 Arctic Winter Games, Wayne brings a deep, well-rounded perspective to sport—shaped by his work on the court, from the bench, and within the community.
Wayne holds an NCCP Train to Compete - Trained certification and currently serves as the Grassroots High Performance Head Coach for Northwest Alberta with Alberta Basketball. He has been instrumental in expanding Alberta Basketball Academy programming throughout the Peace Region and into Grande Prairie.

Wayne is also an ACAC basketball official through the Alberta Basketball Officials Association (ABOA), and has officiated multiple provincial championships on behalf of the Peace Basketball Officials Association (PBOA). His dual role as coach and official sharpens his focus on in-game decision-making, respect for all roles, and a strong grasp of game flow and fairness.
As co-founder and president of Warriors Basketball, Wayne has grown a community-centered grassroots program with over 175 athletes. The program emphasizes:

In addition to leading the U19 Men’s team, Wayne is supporting recruitment and selection of the Women’s Coaching Staff for the 2026 Games. His ongoing goal is to help build a sustainable, long-term basketball system in Alberta’s North—one that empowers athletes and coaches to thrive well into the future.
