For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada Basketball’s Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT) is back in Edmonton, conducting training camp in preparation for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 next month in Sydney, Australia.

The SWNT is training at the Saville Community from Aug. 24 to Sept. 8. The City of Edmonton is a longtime partner of Canada Basketball and has been the official training camp partner of the SWNT since 2013.

The SWNT training camp roster includes Calgary’s Phillipina Kyei, a six-foot-eight centre who played for Team Alberta in provincial competition.

Following training camp, the team will travel to Sydney, Australia for a series of exhibition games, September 10-18, in final preparation for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. Canada was drawn into Group B for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 and will face Serbia (Sept. 21 9:00 p.m. MT), France (Sept. 23 2:00 a.m. MT), Japan (Sept. 25 4:30 a.m. MT), hosts Australia (Sept. 26 4:30 a.m. MT), and Mali (Sept. 27 midnight MT) in the Group Phase, live on Sportsnet.
