Alberta's basketball coaches have a thirst for knowledge

Apr. 05, 2020

While current conditions prevent them from being able to get together with their teams, basketball coaches in Alberta are taking this time as an opportunity to better themselves for when they can next do what they love most, helping players become their best.

The incredible level of enthusiasm among coaches in Alberta was exhibited once again, with the province having the most of any jurisdiction in the country sign up for Canada Basketball’s NCCP “Train to Compete - Planning” course, which will be conducted online by learning facilitator Mike MacKay on May 6-9.

"We had a tremendous response here in Alberta to the opportunity from Canada Basketball for the online offering of the ‘Train to Compete - Planning’ course to be held in May,” says Reagan Wood, Alberta Basketball’s Coach Education and Information Manager.

“Several Alberta coaches were able to register with only 10 total registrants being accepted across the country. Many more are asking to be on the waitlist for the next one.  It's great to see the basketball coaches of Alberta staying engaged through this difficult time."

Course topics include performance planning, practice planning, and managing a sports program.

"We hope to see more online offerings for Multi-Sport modules and NCCP courses as we adapt to our current reality.” Wood adds “I know we will continue to see a great response from coaches in our province to these opportunities.  We also hope that once we are able to again hold clinics in person that the option to learn remotely will continue to develop so that we can better serve coaches in remote communities."

Thank you to all the coaches for everything you do, we are proud to have such engaged and caring leaders in our province.
