Tea DeMong and Yvonne Ejim selected to BioSteel All-Canadian Game

Feb. 23, 2020

Team Alberta alumni Tea DeMong and Yvonne Ejim are among the elite group of players selected for the 2020 BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Games in Toronto next month.

DeMong is making her All-Canadian debut while this is the second consecutive year for Ejim participating in the annual event, which features the top 24 male and top 24 female Canadian high school basketball players who are either Canadian-born or enrolled in a Canadian institution.

“Yvonne and Tea are special players and absolutely deserve to be named to the BioSteel team,” says Paul Sir, Executive Director of Alberta Basketball Association (ABA). “They embody the best qualities as athletes, teammates and young women. ABA is happy for them and their families.”

From Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29, the athletes will work with Canadian coaches and trainers in a series of events including on-and-off court training, practices and scrimmages in front of NBA scouts and GMs, community outreach, and the Nike Skills Challenge. The highlight of the weekend is the Boys and Girls All Canadian Games, which take place March 29 at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre and will be broadcast nationally on TSN.

DeMong is a Grade 12 student at St. Albert Catholic High School. She has played for Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2017 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17).

Ejim goes to Edge School, and has committed to attend Gonzaga, where she will be a member of the Bulldogs women’s basketball team beginning in the 2020-21 NCAA Division 1 season. She has been part of Team Alberta at the Basketball Canada National Championships in 2016 (U15), 2018 and 2019 (U17), and represented her province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

The BioSteel All-Canadian Game was first held for boys in 2015, with a game for girls introduced last year. Previous Alberta Basketball alumni that have participated in the BioSteel All-Canadian Boys Game are Awak Piom (2015), Aher Uguak (2016), Adong Makuoi (2018) and Ben Krikke. Ejim and fellow Team Alberta alum Brynn Masikewich were part of last year’s inaugural girls’ game, with Masikewich earning MVP honours for her team.

Current NBA players Jamal Murray, Thon Maker, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Ignas Brazdeikis, Oshae Brissett, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker have all played in the All-Canadian game.
