Team Alberta alumni selected in first ever CEBL Draft

Mar. 24, 2019

Alberta Basketball alumni were front and centre when the results of the inaugural Canadian Elite Basketball League draft were unveiled on March 23.

Former Team Alberta members Denzel James and Jordan Baker, both from Edmonton, along Dallin Bachynski, a native of Calgary, were taken in the first four rounds of the draft:

  • Denzel James - selected in Round 1 by the Saskatoon Rattlers (4th overall)
  • Jordan Baker - selected in Round 4 by the Edmonton Stingers (23rd overall)
  • Dallin Bachynski - selected in Round 4 by the Fraser Valley Bandits (24th overall)

'The CEBL adds the missing piece in our country to the developmental pathway for our players who love the game,” says Paul Sir, executive director of the Alberta Basketball Association. “Seeing former Alberta provincial team players drafted is both gratifying and exciting. ABA is proud to be a part of the athletes growth along with their community, club and school programs. Best of luck to all who now go about earning their way onto the CEBL rosters.”

The inaugural CEBL season tips off in May, with six teams across Canada. The Edmonton Stingers, led by coach Barnaby Craddock, will play their home games at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
