Seven Alberta athletes invited to Canada Basketball Assessment Camp

Dec. 08, 2018

Seven Albertans are among the 57 athletes invited to Canada Basketball’s Women's National Age-Group Assessment Camps at Humber College in Toronto, Dec. 13-18, 2018.

Tea Demong, Yvonne Ejim, Morgan Harris, Phillipina Kyei, Brynn Masikewich, Annacy Palmer and Hannah Riddick will participate n the camp, which is used to identify players for Canada Basketball’s 2019 national teams.

Athletes born in 2000 or later will be assessed for the U19 women’s team, which will compete next year at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. Athletes born in 2003 or later will be assessed for the U16 team, which will compete next year at the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship.

The camp provides a national training environment, where athletes will undergo physical training sessions and testing under the evaluation of national team coaches, sports scientists and technical staff for the purposes of identifying those who will be invited to the next stage of Canada Basketball’s age-group programs.

"We are excited to see the top nationally identified athletes compete and challenge themselves in our world class training environment.  As part of their long-term development, our staff will provide direction on next steps in their individual performance plans as we prepare for this summer's U16 and U19 teams," said Denise Dignard, Canada Basketball’s Director of Women's High Performance.

"We are looking forward to also having coaches, technical leaders, mentors, performance analysts and IST staff from across the country, all of whom are committed to the long-term development of NextGen athletes in our Podium Pathway. This is an amazing development opportunity for all involved," Dignard added.

All seven of the Alberta athletes have played for Alberta Basketball’s provincial teams. Ejim and Masikewich have also played for Team Canada, including last July at the 2018 FIBA Women’s U17 World Cup in Belarus.

Congratulations to the Alberta athletes on being invited, and good luck in Toronto!
