Recap: Western Canada U16 and U19 Open ID Session and Assessment Camps in Edmonton

Nov. 21, 2018

Edmonton recently hosted a Western Canada Open ID Session and Assessment Camps for U16 (born in 2003 and 2004) and U19 (born in 2000 and 2001) athletes.

Canada Basketball’s Men's High Performance Program conducted the camp at Ross Sheppard High School on November 17 and 18. Around 50 athletes took part over throughout the weekend, and were assessed by national team coaches such as Michael Meeks.

The camp is an integral part of Canada Basketball’s selection process for the national teams that will compete at next summer’s U16 FIBA Americas Championship and U19 FIBA World Cup.

The Assessment Camp featured athletes attending by invitation, as well as athletes who were assessed for possible inclusion during the Open ID Session.

Athletes selected from the Western Canada Assessment Camp will be invited to the Canada Basketball National Team Invitational Tryouts, which will be held April 19 - April 21, 2019.

Last year, several athletes were invited to the National Team Tryouts after attending the Western Canada Assessment Camp that was held in Edmonton. Included among that group is Edmonton’s Ben Krikke, who went on to play for Team Canada at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup in Argentina last summer.

Thank you to all the athletes who participated and the coaches involved for making the Open ID Session and Assessment Camps a great success.
