Alberta Basketball is excited to kickoff the fall programming tryout information!

Senior and Junior Academy- partnered with Panthawks Basketball

The Senior and Junior Academy this fall will be coached and organized through the “Panthawk Academy”, a local elite development training academy.  Panthawks started as a partnership between Dave Oldham, then coaching the Panthers in Spruce Grove, and John Dedrick, the longtime coach of the Skyhawks in St. Albert. Dave and John have a long history of coaching in the Edmonton area, including Dave as the head coach of the U17 Provincial team in 2015 and 2016, as well as head coach for the MacEwan Griffins in 2015-16. John is entering his third year as an Assistant with the University of Alberta Pandas after assisting at MacEwan under coach Rob Poole.  Combining the resources of Basketball Alberta and the Panthawk Academy will put the best coaches and athletes together to create a learning environment that is a win win for all involved.

The Junior Academy is for athletes entering grade 7-9 in the 2018/19 school year, while the Senior Academy is for athletes entering grade 10-12.  

Registration for tryouts is now available!  

Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS)

Please note that the TAS athletes will be identified by Alberta Basketball in August.  

Please email Dave Oldham at doldham@basketballalberta.ca to register for the tryout on Sunday June 24th.  Junior Academy Tryouts will be from 12pm-2pm and Senior Academy from 2:30pm-4:30pm. Tryouts will be at the Saville Centre in Edmonton.  Tryout cost will be $10 payable the day of the tryout.   All tryout participants must be Alberta Basketball members. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact info@basketballalberta.ca or call the ABA office at 780-427-9044 and speak with Natalie.

The Junior and Senior Academy will run on Sunday afternoons for 9 sessions starting on Sunday September 9th, and ending on Sunday November 11th.  Both Junior and Senior Academies will run at the same time, on Sunday afternoons. We will not run sessions on Thanksgiving weekend.  Sessions will run at the Saville Centre or Jasper Place High School.
